To prevent a fertiliser shortfall, Rana Tanveer Hussain, the federal minister for national food security, has ordered the immediate purchase of two lac metric tonnes of urea.

According to the minister, there will be a 3.6% increase in urea consumption in Kharif compared to previous year. “For the country to have food security, fertiliser imports are required,” stated Rana Tanveer.

It will help to increase farm productivity, he claimed. “Timely urea imports will stabilise the local urea market and lower fertiliser prices,” the minister stated.

The local urea fertiliser facilities will all continue to operate at maximum efficiency, according to the minister of food security.

“For the benefit of farmers, the government is guaranteeing gas supply to the fertiliser industry,” stated the federal minister.

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) will make a definitive decision regarding the import of urea fertiliser during its upcoming meeting, according to a ministry official.
