Pakistan is urged by the US to emphasize economic reforms

Published

The United States (US) urged Pakistan to expand and give priority to economic reforms as it works to secure a new International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan package.

Pakistan has stabilized its economy, and we back its endeavors to handle its enormous debt load, according to State Department Spokesman Matthew Miller.

In order to overcome its economic difficulties, we urge the administration to prioritize and broaden economic reforms. We will continue to interact with Pakistan through technical agreements, trade and investment linkages, and our steadfast support for the nation’s economic prosperity—all of which are top priority in our bilateral relationship.

Miller remarked in response to the Indian defense minister, “We do encourage both India and Pakistan to avoid escalation and find a resolution through dialogue, but the United States is not going to get in the middle of this.”

The US will keep pushing for freedom of expression in Pakistan, according to statements made by US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller on Tuesday.

Matthew Miller stated that the US Secretary of State met with the Saudi Foreign Minister last week to discuss de-escalation in the Middle East, but he abstained from commenting on the travel of the Saudi FM to Pakistan.

Miller stated that in addition to working with Saudi Arabia to immediately reduce tensions, we have also persisted in pursuing long-term normalization between Saudi Arabia and Israel, which would bring years of peace and stability to the area.
