No-trust motion: Tweeps explain meaning of Karbala to PM Imran Khan

With all eyes on the crucial National Assembly session today for voting on the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan, both sides [the Opposition and government] seem to be confident.

A night before the vote, PM Imran Khan decided to juxtaposing the ongoing political situation in Pakistan with the incident of Karbala. He said Imam Hussain (AS), his family and believers sacrificed their lives in order to highlight the difference between right and wrong.

“Today, when we stand up against treachery and deception for the sake of truth and love of homeland, Imam Hasan (AS) and Imam Hussain (AS) are our strength,” he wrote.

However, replying to his tweet, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari compared the premier with Yazeed.

“During Karbala, Yazeed also claimed to be on the right path; however, till the end of the world he would remain on the wrong side,” he wrote on his official Twitter handle.

Senior journalist Asma Shirazi said: “It is a pity that Yazeed’s arrogance and oppression caused the Karbala incident and to make the numbers game in the Parliament a battle of right and wrong is a shameful aspect.”

“Followers of Imam Hassan (AS) and Imam Hussain (AS) were against the wrong yesterday and will continue to be against it in the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, another Twitter user, Atif Tauqeer, highlighted that Imam Hussain (AS) was not the ruler instead he had challenged the allegiance.

“You the ruler [prime minister] and you are making people swear allegiance like Yazeed,” he accused Imran Khan, adding that those who fight against him [Imran Khan] are doing the right thing.

“In this situation, Hussainiat (to follow Hussain) is to fight against you instead of fighting on behalf of you/your behalf,” he wrote.
