Much-anticipated April 6 Parade Ground power spectacle is canceled by PTI
In an attempt to secure the release of the party founder, who has been detained since August of last year on charges ranging from corruption to disclosing state secrets, the PTI announced last month that it will hold a massive power show at Parade Ground.

The federal capital’s authorities were also instructed by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to allow the to host a public meeting there.

IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq declared on March 27 at the hearing of PTI’s appeal asking the court for authorization to hold a public protest in Islamabad, saying “one’s right of assembly cannot be taken away.”

The power show was canceled two days after the PTI won significant respite from the court, when the IHC halted the sentences of Khan and his spouse, Bushra Bibi, in the Toshakhana case.

Chief Justice Aamer Farooq of the IHC said on Monday that the appeal against the conviction would be scheduled for a hearing following the Eid vacation.

In the Toshakhana reference in January, Judge Muhammad Bashir of the Accountability Court imposed a severe 14-year prison sentence on Khan and Bushra.

In addition, the judge fined the former prime minister Rs1.57 billion, or Rs787 million per person, and disqualified him from office for ten years.
