The MQM-P ad hoc committee has chosen to give Amir Chishty a ticket following extensive deliberation. Other contenders have been instructed by the party to withdraw their nomination forms.

According to sources, the MQM-P could easily win a general Senate seat, whereas Faisal Vawda, running as an independent, will need the support of other parties in addition to the MQM-P votes to gain the seat.

On the party’s orders, MQM-P candidates Shabbir Qaimkhani and Abubakar withdrew their candidacy papers.

The MQM-P was split on whether to back Faisal Vawda since a number of its leaders were against it.

It is important to note that Vawda’s nomination papers for the Senate election were proposed and seconded by the two MPAs of the MQM-P.

The deadline for withdrawing nomination papers for the election is this Wednesday, which means that the Senate candidates have until today to retrieve them.

In order to fill 48 open Senate seats, polls will be open on April 2 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
