This ruling was made in response to a petition brought up by Sunni Ittehad Council member Bilal Ijaz Chaudhry, who expressed dissatisfaction with the election outcomes.

According to the application, Bilal Ijaz Chaudhary defeated Qayyum in the election on February 8 and was first declared the winner by a margin of 8,000 votes. But after receiving a request for a vote recount, the Pakistani Election Commission announced that Azhar Qayyum, the opposition candidate, had won the recount.

The plea also requested the revocation of the PML-N leader’s victory announcement, claiming that the returning officer had deducted petitioner Chaudhry’s votes by 2,500 during the recounting process.

Judge Shahid Karim granted the motion and decided to postpone announcing Azhar Qayyum’s victory until after more research was conducted. The court’s ruling upholds the values of democracy and justice by highlighting how crucial it is to guarantee fairness and transparency in the electoral process.
