Karachi: Senate nomination document review begins

Over 35 candidates, including PPP, MQM-P, and independents, have filed nomination papers for Sindh’s 12 Senate seats.

The RO office reviewed nomination papers from MQM-P’s Rauf Siddiqui and independent Faisal Vawda.

Twenty-one candidates have filed nomination papers for upper house general seats, six for women’s two reserved seats, five for technocrats two seats, and three for minorities.

Appeals of nomination document acceptance or rejection are allowed until March 21, according the election schedule. By March 25, election tribunals will rule on appeals.

A revised candidate list will be revealed March 26. Nominations can be withdrawn until March 27.

Senate elections will be held in national and provincial parliament on April 2.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Sindh’s ruling party, has run for all Senate seats.

PPP has selected Sarmad Ali and Barrister Zameer Ghumro as Technocrats.

Quratul Ain Marri and Rubina Qaimkhani will run for Senate seats on women’s reserved seats, while PPP’s minority candidate is Poonjo Mall Bheel.

For Senate general seats, the party will run Sarfaraz Rajjar, Ashraf Jatoi, Masroor Ahsan, Nadeem Bhutto, Dost Ali Jaiser, and Kazim Shah.
