According to reports, women’s inheritance rights are being denied more frequently in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

As to the findings of the Federal Ombudsperson Secretariat for Protection against Harassment (FOSPAH) report, about 699 women have been deprived of their legitimate inheritance since last year, as they have not been given their fair portion of the property.

In 2023, about 613 people were unable to get their property share; thus far this year, 86 of these incidents have been documented.

Only two women were able to obtain property thanks to FOSPAH.

The greatest number of these incidents occurred in Peshawar, where 343 women were denied their property portion, and in Mardan, 55 women lost their property share.

FOSPAH sources state that because judicial proceedings take a long period, property cases take a long time to settle.

There are two or three opportunities for the opposing parties to present in court. If the defendant fails to show up in court, non-bailable arrest warrants are issued.
