Pakistan’s batting lineup was dismissed for a pitiful 203 runs at the storied Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) after being asked to bat first. But as they struggled to defend the low mark, the bowlers kept Pakistan in the game.

Because of Haris Rauf and Shaheen Shah Afridi’s outstanding speed bowling, the hosts fell from 113-2 to 155-7.

Nevertheless, Australian captain Pat Cummins remained composed and led his team to an exciting two-wicket triumph with an undefeated 32-run innings.

The Pakistani players’ courageous performance in spite of the loss was commended by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

He praised the performance on his official X (formerly Twitter) account and expressed his desire that the team will win the series outright.

“Good job, Pakistani team! You put up a great fight against Australia! You guys did everything you could to fight as best you could. Even in this first game, we know you will make us proud. Never give up,” Naqvi wrote.

Notably, the third ODI of the series will be held in Perth on November 10th, while the second match will take place in Adelaide on November 8th.

A three-match T20I series will follow the ODI series, with play starting on November 14.

The inaugural T20I will be held in Brisbane, and the subsequent games are set for November 16 and 18 in Sydney and Hobart, respectively.

When Australia decided to field, Starc provided them the start they wanted by dismissing both openers in seven overs with 24 runs scored.

Starc became Australia’s fifth bowler to take 100 ODI wickets during his outstanding new-ball stint. This accomplishment was previously accomplished by Brett Lee, Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, and Craig McDermott before Starc.

When ebutant Saim Ayub received an inside edge that caused his stumps to tumble, it marked Starc’s 100th scalp at home. Additionally, Abdullah Shafique was caught off guard during a brief delivery and fell victim to Starc.

Following his comeback to the attack, the left-arm bowler put an end to Shaheen Shah Afridi’s brief appearance, which included three fours and one six and totalled 24 runs from 19 balls.

In 46.4 overs, Mitchell Starc returned with 3-33 figures to dismiss Pakistan for 203.

Securing a single ODI victory in Australia would be a significant achievement. Wasim Akram

Renowned fast bowler Wasim Akram has stated that the forthcoming ODI series against Australia presents a significant challenge for the Pakistan cricket team under the newly appointed white-ball captain Mohammad Rizwan.

The wicket-keeper batsman succeeded Babar Azam as Pakistan’s white-ball captain following Azam’s resignation from the position earlier this month, in an effort to concentrate more on his playing responsibilities.

Mohammad Rizwan will commence his captaincy with the three-match ODI series against Australia, beginning on November 4.

Rizwan, who commenced his white-ball cricket career in 2015, has participated in 74 ODIs and 102 T20Is, accumulating 5,401 runs, including four hundreds, and has had 143 dismissals as a wicketkeeper.

Rizwan will assume the role of Pakistan’s 31st captain as he leads the side in the opening ODI against Australia in Melbourne on 4 November. He will be the 12th individual to captain Pakistan in the T20I format during the inaugural match in Brisbane on 14 November.

During an online press conference from Melbourne, Wasim Akram emphasized Rizwan’s potential as captain, referencing his leadership experience.

Rizwan is a seasoned campaigner. According to Akram, he has captained throughout his life, guiding the Multan Sultans in the PSL to one championship and two finals. “In terms of leadership, he is an experienced strategist.”

Nevertheless, the former skipper underscored the difficulty of competing against Australia in their home environment, especially in ODI cricket.

“This is his inaugural tour as captain, and it is a challenging one.” Defeating Australia on their own soil, particularly in ODI cricket, is a formidable challenge,” he remarked.

“In T20I cricket, there exists a possibility; however, Australia is a formidable opponent in ODI cricket.”

Wasim advised the Pakistan players to focus on executing high-quality cricket, emphasizing that securing even a single ODI victory under these conditions would be a significant achievement for the team.

“They ought to concentrate solely on cricket and strive for success against Australia.” Securing even a single ODI victory out of three in Australia would be significant,” he stated.
