90% of Lahore’s polling places are deemed “sensitive” by ECP

ISLAMABAD Ahead of the general elections in 2024, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) designated 90% of the polling places in Lahore as “sensitive,” according to ARY News, which cited people with knowledge of the issue.

Up to 4,403 polling places are expected to be set up in Lahore for 44 National Assembly and provincial assembly constituencies, according to sources.

Out of 4,403 polling places, 3,540 have been designated as “sensitive,” and 813 as “highly sensitive.”

According to the reports, security personnel from the Pakistan Army and police would be stationed outside Lahore’s “sensitivity” polling places. All polling places will also have CCTV installations.

In addition, 6,545 polling places in Sindh have been designated as “sensitive,” and 6,524 as “most sensitive.” The 5,937 polling places in Sindh have been deemed operational.

“In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 4,143 polling places have been designated as “most sensitive,” and 6,166 polling places as “sensitive.” According to authorities, KP’s 5,388 voting places have been deemed operational.

“A total of 961 polling places in Balochistan have been deemed normal, 2,337 as “sensitive,” and 1,730 as “most sensitive.”

The arrangement of polling places throughout the four provinces and the federal capital is outlined in the ECP’s election plan. The security circumstances and the history of electoral violence have led to the classification of the polling locations as normal, sensitive, and very sensitive.
